Spotify Mac App Never Works: Common Errors and How to Fix Them

There are a few telltale signs. Are you seeing songs listed in your play history that you don't recognize? Are you suddenly getting a lot of Swedish hip-hop or Japanese pop music in your Discover Weekly playlist, despite never listening to that genre? Were you kicked out of the app while playing a track?

Spotify Mac App Never Works

If this doesn't work, you can also go to Settings > Storage, find the Spotify app, tap Offload App first, and then delete it. Some users claim this works better for some apps, especially if you have a jailbroken device or an older version of Spotify on an older iOS.

First: suddenly, almost all songs on web player (including ALL playlists) are greyed out and I can't select none of them specifically but curiously the play button works to start an album or playlist. But it's annoying not to be able to select the song you want to hear.

Second, the search on spotify app (mac os) NEVER worked and I simply cannot access artist pages, and the only way to listen to music is downloading playlists I've made in other devices. All my workmates are having the same problem.

for your first problem have you tried signing out of the app, and deleting and reloading the app, and logging back, it might be a problem with spotify not keeping u, i have had this problem before and I did what i suggested and it worked.

My Question or IssueMy desktop app doesn't work, i can listen music on the spotify browse, but when i open the app i can see only black with the last listening (wich i can listen also in the app) but that's all... i can't search music and do anything else... i don't know what to do, i've been trying all the instruction i've read in spotify guides.HELP ME PLEASE!!!Thank you for your attention and support

Spotify constantly stops working on my iMac. Not sure why? It works everywhere else. My MacBook, TV and iPhone are fine. I know many people who have the same issues. I restarted it, re downloaded it, closed app out in other place and to no avail. I have had this problem since January 2019.

It seems as though the hardware acceleration was already disabled. I decided to enable it and it restarted but the issue persists. I then disabled it and restarted again and still nothing. Just a black home screen that never loads up. So disappointing.

  • Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and open Task Manager. Alternatively, you can open the Task Manager with CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.

  • In processes locate the spotify.exe file.

  • Click on Spotify.exe and stop the application by clicking on End Process

With more than 400 million active monthly users, Spotify has a lock on streaming audio. Despite facing tough competition from YouTube Music and Apple Music, Spotify remains the favorite among users thanks to its excellent song recommendations, a vast library of music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and smooth app performance. But that doesn't mean you will never experience problems with the service.

Silenz is the perfect sound mixer for your Mac. As soon as you put on headphones (whether regular or wireless), this app will adjust your sound flow to the surrounding world, so you can stay focused without all the background noise but, at the same time, hear your phone ring or someone speaking to you. Silenz is compatible with any third-party media player or service, including Spotify, and works automatically, even without your direct involvement.

While the other competitive standards will work with multiple cloud music services, Spotify Connect works solely with Spotify content. It's also important to note that the standards can work interchangeably -- for instance, you can use the Spotify app to stream to both AirPlay and Chromecast built-in devices. These will appear as available devices in much the same way as a Connect receiver does, only the icon will be different.

While the Spotify Connect software works on almost any PC, Mac, iOS or Android device, it still pays to check your receiving device for the Spotify logo, or check the manufacturer's website just to be sure. In some cases compatibility can be added later, for example, while Spotify once deleted its app from the Roku platform, it was later replaced by a Spotify Connect-compatible version.

While some devices have both a Spotify app onboard and Connect support (Sonos, for instance) we have found in almost all cases that using Connect is better. One big reason is that, unlike the Connect, the onboard app in your TV or AV receiver might never receive updates and get so old it simply stops working. Apps built into TVs and other gear can also be tedious because they use your remote control instead of your phone's touchscreen.

Sometimes, the Spotify app never stops properly and continues to run even after the app is closed. When you launch the app again, the system gets confused because, according to it, Spotify is already running. And that can lead to not responding error on Windows.

Spotify also lets you play music from your device in the Spotify app, but it only works for local files (so they aren't stored in the cloud). Spotify is the only service that offers podcasts within the app. Apple splits podcasts into a dedicated Podcasts app.

If nothing works then you will have to re-install the Spotify app. You can use IObit Uninstaller, a free tool to remove Spotify. The tool will also remove all residue files, download a fresh setup of Spotify from the link and install it again.

In May 2013, Spotify acquired music discovery app Tunigo.[62] In March 2014, they acquired The Echo Nest, a music intelligence company.[63][64] In June 2015, Spotify announced they had acquired Seed Scientific, a data science consulting firm and analytics company. In a comment to TechCrunch, Spotify said that Seed Scientific's team would lead an advanced analytics unit within the company, focused on developing data services.[65][66] In January 2016, they acquired social and messaging startups Cord Project and Soundwave,[67] followed in April 2016 by CrowdAlbum, a "startup that collects photos and videos of performances shared on social networks," and would "enhance the development of products that help artists understand, activate, and monetize their audiences".[68] In November 2016, Spotify acquired Preact, a "cloud-based platform and service developed for companies that operate on subscription models which helps reduce churn and build up their subscriber numbers".[69]

On 12 April 2018, Spotify acquired the music licensing platform Loudr.[78] In August 2018, Spotify bought the exclusive rights to The Joe Budden Podcast and expanded the show to a twice-weekly schedule.[79] On 6 February 2019, Spotify acquired the podcast networks Gimlet Media and Anchor FM Inc., with the goal of establishing themselves as a leading figure in podcasting.[80][81][82] On 26 March 2019, Spotify announced they would acquire another podcast network, Parcast.[83][84] On 12 September 2019, Spotify acquired SoundBetter, a music production marketplace for people in the music industry to collaborate on projects, and distribute music tracks for licensing.[85] On 19 November 2019, Spotify announced the acquisition of the exclusive rights to The Last Podcast on the Left.[86]

In June 2017, Variety reported that Spotify would announce "Secret Genius", a new initiative aimed at highlighting songwriters and producers, and the effect those people have on the music industry and the artists' careers. The project, which would feature awards, "Songshops" songwriting workshops, curated playlists, and podcasts, is an effort to "shine a light on these people behind the scenes who play such a big role in some of the most important moments of our lives. When the general public hears a song, they automatically associate it with the artist who sings it, not the people behind the scenes who make it happen, so we thought the title Secret Genius was appropriate", Spotify's former Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter told Variety the first awards ceremony would take place in late 2017,[needs update] and was intended to honour "the top songwriters, producers and publishers in the industry as well as up-and-coming talent." Additionally, as part of "The Ambassador Program", 13 songwriters would each host a Songshop workshop, in which their peers would collaboratively attempt to create a hit song, with the first workshop taking place in Los Angeles in June 2017.[181]

Spotify has client software currently available for Windows, macOS, Wear OS, Android, iOS, watchOS, iPadOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S game consoles. There is an official, although unsupported Linux version. Spotify also offers a proprietary protocol known as "Spotify Connect", which lets users listen to music through a wide range of entertainment systems, including speakers, receivers, TVs, cars, and smartwatches. Spotify also has a web player (open.spotify.com).[198] Offline Music listening is possible on watchOS[199] and more recently added to google's WearOS[200] for those with premium subscriptions. Unlike the apps, the web player does not have the ability to download music for offline listening. In June 2017, Spotify became available as an app through Windows Store.[201][202]

In April 2011, Spotify announced via a blog post that they would drastically cut the amount of music that free members could access, effective 1 May 2011. The post stated that all free members would be limited to ten hours of music streaming per month, and in addition, individual tracks were limited to five plays. New users were exempt from these changes for six months.[249] In March 2013, the five-play individual track limit was removed for users in the United Kingdom, and media reports stated that users in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand never had the limit in the first place.[250][251] 2ff7e9595c
